Does anyone here do skype/facetime lessons? If so, can you give me some ideas on how to do it successfully? Is there a stand of some sort that can hold the phone/ipad in the correct position to show your hands as you play?
I would like to be able to offer this option in specific circumstances, but I need more technical info before I attempt it.

I have done them, but only with my nieces (low pressure). I simply put my laptop on a tv tray next to my piano and stacked it on books until it was at the right height. It seems like they can see my keyboard and hands just find.

I find that it's very helpful to use the "share screen" function so that I can pull up a pdf of the piece they are working on and point at certain notes and sections with my cursor. It makes it much easier to communicate.

Also, depending on the age of the student, some parental supervision might be necessary. One mischievous niece figured out that whenever she was struggling, she could freeze in place and pretend that the computer froze to kill time! smile

Haha! That's awesome and very creative! I would be using it for adults so "hopefully" that wouldn't be a problem. ;-) Thank you for your feedback. The share screen function is definitely a help. Were you using skype or facetime?

I was using Skype. I'm not 100% certain you can share your screen on facetime, but you definitely can on Skype and Google+.
