I have been trying to incorporate games into my lessons with the little ones, besides all the activities we do in MFPA. I have had much success with the "quarter note hunt" game which I found on Susan's site. The kids LOVE it!! The thing that makes this game so great is that it's so simple and yet you can do variations on it, such as hunting for half notes, whole notes, etc.

Does anyone have any more ideas for simple games such as this to play with the kids? All ideas welcome!!
Thanks!

From Susan's site I use the "step and skip" game with homemade dice (i.e., printed on cardstock) and two little pawns stolen from one of our home board games. Another one my kids love is similar but rather than using dice I have a little plastic box full of alphabet beads (only letters A-G of course). We start our pawns on the same note (bass C for example) and drawing letter beads out of the box we advance to the next note indicated going up the keyboard until one of us reaches the "finish line" (treble C, for example, but could be any note you choose).

Just tried the "fly swatter" flash cards on susan's site. The kids went bananas - just LOVED them. - epecially the 5 year old boys. It's a great change-up on the traditional flash-card games.

Susan's blog is great! A couple other blogs that have some good ideas for games:

http://musicmattersblog.com/

http://jenspianostudio.wordpress.com/

http://laytonmusic.wordpress.com/

Also- I wanted to mention a teaching aid that I just used for the first time on one of my 5 year olds that wasn't getting the step/skip concept. It's Rebakah Maxner's (Notekidds) Puddles and Sticks. Here is a link: http://www.notekidds.maxner.ca/puddles.asp

It was the perfect thing she needed... to physically stand and jump from stick to stick (skipping) or "splashing" puddle to puddle or stepping up/down etc...
