May I ask please if anyone combines 'Dogs and Birds' with 'Piano Adventures'? (I hope I am not repeating a previous thread but could find no reference using the search engine.)
Thank you

I've never seen "Dogs and Birds" before. Looks cute though. (I googled it.) Looks like the children need to know the beginning sounds of words well enough to use that information conceptually before beginning "Dogs and Birds".

Sorry for the delay in replying.

Yes, it does help to understand that 'd' stands for 'dog' etc. The pupils I use it with are aged 5 and have that understanding. But even if they don't read at all, they can associate the notes with the animals, and one version of the book has animal pictures on the notes. I also use it with a 7-year-old who has difficulty reading whole words and who, since beginning this system, has made great progress. They all love the characters and story-telling.

I would like more variety, though, and am not entirely happy with doing only off-the-stave work, which is used in the PA primer book. So I thought I would try to combine the two.
