Dear Lisa,
Do you have any helps for a soon-to-be-high-school student who has a hard time getting all 45 minutes of practice in a day? I have to admit, I can come up with almost anything else to do other than practicing. I love music, and I love playing the piano, I just would like some advice on getting all the time in. Thanks!

Buy yourself an inexpensive little digital timer and break practice into "babysteps", allowing yourself to do only small chunks of time per mini-session. 10-15 minutes per practice timelette might be a good way to start, and try having a specific goal for that 10-15 minutes.

I often amaze myself when I do this, finding that I reset the timer at the end of the 15 minutes because things are just getting interesting, and I end up practicing 2-3 times longer than intended. But if I tell myself I have to sit down for a long length of time then I never get started!
