Arlene Steffen great comments on beginning adults...Always having familer supplemental piece that they can learn (even by rote) is always encouraging.

Improvising will also free the Adult Student from the psychological tension that many have, due to their need to play everything "perfectly". I've found that adults need to re-discover their bodies in general, getting in touch with the sensation of their body moving slowly and gracefully.

Beautiful pieces can easily be created on-the-spot, using hand-over-hand arpeggios, single tones played with the 3rd finger only, and the damper pedal.
